DAVID WITT

Australia | Skipper

Date of birth: 5 March 1971

From: Sydney, Australia

Nationality: Australian

Something about him that you might not know: David, or ‘Witty’ to his mates, has been living in Hong Kong for many years and is ‘very proud’ to be representing Hong Kong along with the rest of Team Sun Hung Kai/Scallywag. He has made history by being the first Hong Kong team to take part in the Volvo Ocean Race, as well as winning the leg upon arrival into Hong Kong (Leg 4) and second place in Auckland (Leg 6).

Who he is: ‘Witty’ is known as a straight shooter on and off the water. The Australian honed his skills in some of the roughest waters in the world, with over 20 appearances to his name in the Sydney to Hobart Race. He also took part in the Volvo Ocean Race 1997-98 edition with Knut Frostad onboard the Innovation Kvaerner, and returned in Hong Kong’s debut in the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18 edition. He brings with him a ready-made, solid and experienced Scallywag crew from the 100ft Super Maxi campaign.
